Kitty and Ellen

Documentary • United States • 16 minutes

The film documents the incredible friendship of two Holocaust survivors through animated memories of their past and the impact of the Trump election. Ultimately, the powers of friendship and humor are what make these women a resilient force during a time when the contemporary political climate bears striking resemblance to their past.

Ode to Lesvos

Documentary • Netherlands • 11 minutes

An inspiring story about a small group of fishermen and old ladies from the town of Skala Sikamineas on Lesvos, who received hundreds of thousands of refugees with open arms during summer of 2016. Because of their selfless efforts, the villagers were nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Prince of Smoke

Young Cuban tobacco farmer and cigar maker, Hirochi Robaina, follows in his famous grandfather’s footsteps as he fights climate change and government bureaucracy to bring in the harvest and preserve the 171 year-old family legacy.

The Agave Gun

Gary Linden is one of the few remaining masters of his craft and is still shaping surfboards by hand. At 68 years old he tired long ago of doing things the easy way and has opted to experiment with untested raw materials like the wood from agave plants to craft beautiful boards like no other.

By his 19th birthday, Adolfo Kaminsky had helped save thousands of children from the Nazis by hand-making false passports. He went on to forge papers for people around the world in practically every major conflict of the mid-20th century.

All Skate, Everybody Skate

A portrait of a remarkable woman in her late seventies who runs the post office during the day and the roller-skating rink each evening to renting and repairing skates, spinning vintage 45s, and weaving smoothly in-between the tourists in her white skates with the red wheels.
