This showcase runs approximately 90 minutes and includes all of the films listed on the page with time afterwards for Q&A with filmmakers. Due to the adult nature of some of these films, this showcase is appropriate for ages 18+.

Huni Kuin – The Last Guardians

In the heart of Brazilian Amazon, the survival of an ancient indigenous tribe is seriously threatened. Bainawá, a leadership member of the Huni Kuin, speaks directly to the nawa,’ white man’, about the urgent preservation of the forest where his people live.

I Love New York

Comedy • United States • 11 minutes

In a city where everyone’s got an angle, how does you survive? After an NYC first-timer befriends a savvy street girl on the train, she takes him on a fantastical ride through all the city’s pitfalls.

Fireplace

Inspired by true events. Christmas Eve in Syria, a small kid plays hide and see and he hides in the fireplace. Within few seconds their house is bombed to the ground. The fireplace still stands, with the boy trapped inside.

Second to None

Frederick Butterfield has always been runner up to his twin brother Herman. When Herman becomes the world’s oldest man with a mere minute gap between them, Frederick finally sees an opportunity to be first place.

Faracha (Butterfly)

Comedy • Tunisia • 16 Minutes

Omar is a Young man from a small conservative city who discovers his passion for filmmaking so he enrolls in a photography contest to be admitted to a film school in the capital. His contest subject of funerals doesn’t sit well with the locals.

All Skate, Everybody Skate

Documentary • United States • 19 minutes

A portrait of a remarkable woman in her late seventies who runs the post office during the day and the roller-skating rink each evening to renting and repairing skates, spinning vintage 45s, and weaving smoothly in-between the tourists in her white skates with the red wheels.

Towards the Sun

Drama • United States • 19 minutes

A 12 year old girl confronts her scarring past when she is placed at an immigrant children’s shelter for unaccompanied minors in Texas. As her future hangs in limbo, she embarks on a healing journey to recover her own sense of power through her artwork.
