DC Shorts proudly presents jury and audience awards to our top films. These shorts are programmed into two different “Best of DC Shorts” showcases that are screened at Miracle Theater on September 16th and 17th. It is a great way to conclude the week — and catch the selections that might go on to fame… and that special golden statue!

Watu Wote – For almost a decade Kenya has been targeted by terrorist attacks of the Al-Shabaab. An atmosphere of anxiety and mistrust between Muslims and Christians is growing. Until in December 2015, Muslim bus passengers showed that solidarity can prevail.
Fanny Pack – A comedy about a young Indian-American woman who wants to follow her dreams, and a fanny pack clad Indian father who chases his daughter through an airport hoping that she will follow his.
The Sandman – A doctor walks the line of his own morality as he participates in executions, while personally opposing capital punishment.
Gridlock – A thriller set during a traffic jam on a country road. When a little girl goes missing from one of the cars, her father forms a desperate search party to find her, and soon everyone is a suspect.
Second To None – Frederick Butterfield has always been runner up to his twin brother Herman. When Herman becomes the world’s oldest man with a mere minute gap between them, Frederick finally sees an opportunity to be first place.
Seven Dates With Death – The story of Moreese Bickham, the oldest living survivor of death row. Bickham describes his killings, his experience on death row and how he was able to get out with his life.
Ticket Like A Man – An insecure parking enforcement officer feels too guilty to successfully issue parking tickets. Things change when he meets a fellow officer who shows him the ropes.

Hollywood’s Greatest Trick – Visual effects artists are responsible for some of the most iconic moments in movie history. But while Hollywood’s profits grow, visual effects artists struggle for fair pay, representation and recognition beyond the most prestigious award in film — an Oscar.
Siren – Abbas, an Arab immigrant, breaks into the room of Toyoshige, a Japanese old man, in the sudden wail of siren. Then Abbas storms out of the door, carrying Toyoshige piggyback. As they go down the stairs, the film reveals their day-to-day lives and shows their prejudices and misunderstandings.
Unknown – Four young guys from DC make up the band The Unknowns. Completely unknown in the music industry, they are taking their future into their own hands, performing full scale ‘pop-up concerts’ at metro stations and public spaces that stop traffic and gather huge crowds.
My Nephew Emmett – At 2:30AM on August 28, 1955 in the most racially divided state in the country, 64 year-old Mose Wright tries to protect his 14 year-old nephew Emmett Till from two racist killers out for blood. Based on the true story of the 1955 murder of Emmett Louis Till.
Toys – In 1930s farm country, a father wants a son, but he gets a little girl. He tries to toughen her up by giving her toys intended for boys. His efforts backfire when she proves a little too capable for comfort.
The Forger – By his 19th birthday, Adolfo Kaminsky had helped save thousands of children from the Nazis by hand-making false passports. He went on to forge papers for people around the world in practically every major conflict of the mid-20th century.
Game – A new kid shows up at the high school boys’ basketball tryouts and instantly makes an impression. Will talent and drive be enough to make the team?
